Skills Transitioning and Employment Pathways to Success (S.T.E.P.S.) was founded in 2019, but its true inception began years before. Our founder, Traci Johnston, spent nearly two decades working as a special education teacher in our community. She saw the lack of opportunities available to her students following high school and the anxiety this caused her students and their families. With the help of one of her former students, she created an educational and exciting day program in Deer Park, Next Step Transition Center. As the day program grew, so did the feeling she could do more. She felt the calling to create a program where young adults could continue to grow in their independence and skills. S.T.E.P.S. was created to provide community-based vocational training, volunteer opportunities, and employment opportunities for young adults who would like to explore their unique talents. We are so proud to offer young adults the opportunity to gain confidence and independence through skills and monetary compensation!
We believe every person, regardless of their abilities, deserves the opportunity to share their individual talents with the world. S.T.E.P.S. was established as a non-profit organization with these goals in mind: 1. Give those who thought they were unable to work in the community a training center where they can make the most of their individual talents within our first year 2. Employ young adults who complete our training program, compensating them $7.25 per hour for their completed work. 3. To provide financial aid through grants for individuals to receive vocational training. 4. Establish a permanent facility with multiple training centers within five years of inception
